Comprehensive Eye Examination- combining state-of-the-art diagnostic technology with 26 years of experience in the eye care world we examine the visual components of the eye (e.g. nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, etc.) and the eye health. In most cases a dilated fundus (back of the eye) examination (DFE) will be performed to evaluate all of the visible structures of the eye and determine the tendency towards progression to eye disease (e.g. glaucoma, high blood pressure changes, etc.). A complete refraction will be performed to determine not only the prescription necessary to give quality distance vision but the impact on the “comfort “of the vision by that prescription. The refraction will determine the need for a prescription for near work that may be in some cases totally different from the distance prescription. A complete slit lamp examination (SLE) will be performed to determine, among other things, the health of the front of the eye (cornea) and the potential to have eye pressure problems (glaucoma). There will be automated equipment used before you see the doctor that will analyze the prescription, curvature of the cornea and in some cases the surface topography of the cornea.
Contact Lens Evaluations- In addition to the comprehensive examination, diagnostic contact lenses must be placed on the eye to determine the many parameters and variables that go into a well fit contact lens. The evaluation does not stop at the time of the fitting but continues until it has been determined that the vision, comfort, fit and eye health are optimum which might take several visits. The doctor is not using only one certain type of contact lens but whichever contact lens “works” for each individual case (e.g. dry eye problems, large astigmatism, bifocal needs). Lenses are individually fit for each patient.
Additional Testing Services- We offer computerized visual field testing and digital retinal imaging, which may be indicated by a patient's symptoms (flashing lights, seeing spots, etc.), physical health (diabetes, hypertension, etc.), eye health (elevated eye pressure, blood vessel leakage, etc.) or family history (glaucoma, retinal detachment, etc.). See our FAQs page for more information.
Nursing home visits- We will be examining eyes at a remote site for those that are unable to travel to our office locations. In addition, we will be able to provide eyeglasses through our “affiliation” with Linder Opticians.
Management of Eye Surgery- Those patients that need surgical intervention (cataract, glaucoma, LASIK) will be co-managed through the surgeon’s office and ours. We will be performing postoperative care and communicating between the two offices to give you the most convenient, quality care you deserve. The surgeons that our office suggests have superior outcomes and offer you state-of-the-art facilities and procedures.
Specialty Contact Lens Fittings- To Dr. Sterling the most exciting and challenging contact lens wearer is one that has been diagnosed with a corneal (front surface of the eye) disease or a surgically induced corneal problem. This type of case is one that not all qualified contact lens fitters would “take-on”. For eight years Dr. Sterling was the hard gas permeable contact lens fitter for a large population of keratoconic patients who sometime require customized contact lenses. For twelve years Dr. Sterling was the optometrist in a large refractive, corneal practice and participated in the care of various challenging corneal cases.
Referral Services- If necessary Dr. Sterling’s office will identify for you the appropriate specialist for your particular case (e.g. High blood pressure changes in the retina referred to an internist). In addition there are other specialists that he might be able to refer you to because these are not specialties he is equipped to perform (low vision, vision training, etc.). Routine referrals will be made to retinal specialists, glaucoma specialists, general practitioners, pediatricians, oculoplastic specialists, cosmetic surgeons and the aforementioned cataract and LASIK (refractive) surgeries.
Spokesperson for Colorectal Cancer- Dr. Sterling is a self appointed spokesperson after his bout with colon cancer in January of 2005. The cancer was found at an early stage at a routine colonoscopy (50 years old) and there was no need for chemotherapy or radiation. For this reason alone he has chosen to tell everyone that will listen that preventative, routine health care works!
Optometric Practice Brokering- Sterling Enterprises began 2005 in response to the needs of the local eye care community. There is very little local optometric representation amongst those assisting buyers or sellers of optometric practices and the process that it entails. I developed a strategic alliance with a national practice brokering firm, Practice Concepts, that allows me to offer to those looking to acquire or sell a practice attain their goals. In addition I offer consultative services for those that need assistance in building their businesses/practices. I have developed strategic alliances in the financing field so I can not only help to find a buyer for the practice but I can help that buyer obtain financing for their venture. I have formed a real estate company which is exploring the foreclosure real estate business and the opportunity available. In the real estate transactions that I have encountered I have utilized another strategic alliance with a colleague and a friend Ray Puzio, OD who has a mortgage brokering business (http://www.allamericanmortgages.net/).
I am dedicated to my clients and I will work to get you the best deal possible yielding the best value. My approach to the sale of a practice has been one-on-one and I have been successful at matching the appropriate buyer with the seller. I have begun some internet marketing of practice sales and consultation but for the most part I have utilized my networking experience in optometry to finalize the acquisition.
If you are a buyer and would like to view my non-disclosure agreement, or if you are a seller and would like a seller’s agreement, e-mail your request to Dr.RSterling@comcast.net. |
